WAGS, TARTAN AND TEAM EUROPE...
The 40th Ryder Cup, 26-28th September, 2014 (Scotland)
Pinch me... over and over again. A once in a lifetime opportunity to work on one of my all time favourite sporting events - The Ryder Cup. In the midst of the much talked about Scottish Referendum, Gleneagles hosted this auspicious tournament flawlessly, with Team Europe retaining the Cup with a resounding win over the Americans.
Red Sky at Night Events Ltd. contracted me for a 6 week period where we were responsible for organising both the Ryder Cup Ladies Day as well as the official Ryder Cup Gala Dinner in Glasgow for both the USA and European Teams.
A few days prior to the tournament start, the players' wives and partners were treated to a Tour of Holyrood Palace (official residence of the British monarch in Scotland, Queen Elizabeth II), followed by a private lunch at the luxurious Balmoral Hotel packed with local entertainment such as Rachel Sermanni and Karen Matheson (folk musicians), Scottish Opera singers and Highland Dancers.
On the eve of the tournament, American and European Ryder Cup players were entertained by senior politicians at an exclusive Players Dinner hosted by Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond. Scotland welcomed teams and their partners with a lavish dinner under the great beams and chandeliers of Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum where players could mingle ahead of the start of the matches.
Our remit was to co-ordinate all aspects of venue hire, transport, decor, catering, table settings, menu designs, print, audio visual, accreditation and security. We worked in collaboration with local Scottish suppliers who helped us create hugely successful and exemplary events.
